March 2006 Job Growth in Stockton MSA Fares Well With Other MSAs
Stockton and Sacramento metropolitan areas (MSAs) posted positive job growth in all 7 selected private industries between March 2005 and March 2006. Even in the Manufacturing sector, both MSAs posted solid job growth of 2.55% and 4.17%, respectively, while the state on average suffered a 0.78% job loss. Fueling the economies in Stockton MSA and surrounding MSAs was strong job growth in the Construction and various Services sectors. Fresno and Modesto in particular, posted the strongest job growth of 10.40% and 8.94% in the Construction sector. Merced, however, is an exception; it was the only MSA with zero job gain in the Construction sector and even significant job losses in the Leisure and Hospitality sector.
